Archy Marshall took the world by storm under his King Krule moniker, swooning us all with his raw, stripped back and honestly brutal jams. Not one to particularly embrace the limelight, he’s taken a step back into the shadows for a little while now, occasionally releasing some tracks through one of his various musical alter egos (DJ JD Sports, Edgar The Beatmaker, etc…)
This time around Archy drops the stage names as he releases his brand new project ‘A New Place 2 Drown‘. Not you’re usual record to say the least. It’s a book of photography, art and poetry he’s done with his brother Jack, a short film giving you a little sneak peak into his relationship with him, and a ‘soundtrack’ to the book in the shape of a 12 track album. Christmas has come early for all you King Krule fanatics.
I’ll focus on the record, which is a real smooth and insightful journey into the musical mind of the young London street crooner. The best way to describe it would be as a real melting pot of all we’ve heard from Archy Marshall in the past. The betaking element, the hazy, raw, powerful spoken word, the floating guitars, the whole nine yards beautifully tied into a nifty package hitting all your senses.
