Bear//Face – Interview

We first came across 19 year old Ciaran McDonald (aka Bear//Face) a while back when stumbling upon his “Beat_Tape” and most particularly “Taste My Sad“, a truly great track. The feedback we’ve been getting from his music has been great so we reached out to the young Belfast beatmaker for an interview.

Here are the fruits of our little chat.

When did you start making music ?

I started playing guitar when I was about 12 and been in a few bands and stuff, but I’d say I only started writing electronic music about a year ago.

Describe your music in 5 words.

Doing DMT anally with Prince.

Where did the name BEAR//FACE come from ?

Bears have faces and I thought that was pretty cool.

What are your musical influences ?

Justin Timberlake, Screwed Up Click, Pharrell, Michael Jackson, Gold Panda, Bjork. too many others…

Taste My Sad’ went crazy online, did you expect that kind of reaction ?

Not at all, I just put it online so I could get peoples opinions on what I’ve been working on over the past year.

What has changed since ?

I’m a girl now

Dream collaboration ?

Whats on your Ipod (or any other music playing device) these days ?

At the moment it’s been the same few albums by Algernon Cadwallader, Tubelord, Snowing, Coping, Pianos become the teeth, loma prieta and that new Captain Murphy tape which is nuts.

What’s next for BEAR//FACE ?

Playing some US dates early 2013, and a new EP out start of summer which shall be a lot of fun.

Final words ?

Smoke crack with your kids and always run with scissors.
